As of 4.50pm today, (Tuesday, January 12) there have been 242 new cases recorded in the previous 24 hours. The total number of cases in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic now sits at 9,202. There were 1,938 cases recorded in the seven days leading up to January 7. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete. This represents a weekly rate of 338.9 cases per 100,000 people. The number of people testing positive for coronavirus in the UK has increased by 45,533.

Coronavirus in Cornwall: Friday, January 8 - rise in deaths and cases

A further rise in deaths has been recorded in Cornwall involving patients testing positive for coronavirus, on the same day that a new record high in daily cases is recorded both locally and in the UK. The latest death, which took place at the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust on Wednesday (January 6) and has been recorded in today s figures from NHS England, marks the third reported rise this week. It follows three deaths on Monday (January 4), which were reported on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. There have now been 85 deaths registered to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and 29 to the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust, bringing the overall total number of hospital deaths in Cornwall to 114.

The latest Covid-19 case information for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has been published. As of 4.20pm today, (Thursday, January 7) there have been 303 new cases recorded in the previous 24 hours. The total number of cases in the local authority area since the start of the pandemic now sits at 7,898. There were 1,859 cases recorded in the seven days leading up to January 1. Data from the most recent five days is not shown due to being incomplete. This represents a weekly rate of 325.1 cases per 100,000 people. There have been 85 deaths registered to the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and 28 to the Cornwall Partnerships NHS Trust, bringing the overall total number of hospital deaths in Cornwall to 113.

Royal Cornwall Hospital number of Covid patients in wards

The number of people in the Royal Cornwall Hospital suffering from Covid has shot up from four at the beginning of December to 56 now - an increase of 1,300%. There are currently 56 people in Cornwall’s main hospital with Covid-19 as the increase in cases has led to more people being hospitalised. The figure was revealed to a meeting of the board of Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust (RCHT) this morning. Members were reminded that at their last meeting on December 3 it was reported that there were just four people with Covid in the hospital, but today that figure stands at 56. Robin Jones, acting director of operations at RCHT,  said that of those two patients were in the intensive treatment unit (ITU) and three were in the high dependency unit (HDU).
