Knifeman who plunged a 45cm blade into a cop s back at Sydney s Central Station psychotic

A man armed with a 45cm hunting knife pleaded guilty to plunging the blade into a police officer s back in a random attack at Sydney s Central Station despite being psychotic at the time, a court has heard.  Mark Thompson, 54, has pleaded guilty to the 2019 attack which was captured on CCTV and played for the NSW District Court on Friday.  The victim, Constable Hayden Edwards, can be seen in the footage immediately collapsing the ground after being stabbed - before managing to get to his knees with his gun drawn.  Thompson brandishing the knife can be seen on CCTV stabbing Constable Hayden Edwards in the back on the packed concourse (pictured) 

Officer injured - Earlwood

A police officer has been injured after an incident in Sydney’s Inner West overnight. About 10.40pm (Friday 5 February 2021), officers attached to Police Transport Command were conducting proactive patrols as part of an operation targeting anti-social behaviour in the Inner West area, when they noticed a vehicle parked at a reserve on Bayview Terrace at Earlwood. As four officers approached the sedan from behind, the male driver reversed the vehicle, allegedly striking one of the officers. An officer discharged one round from his firearm, a fragment of which has struck a second officer in the left forearm. He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital where it’s believed he will undergo surgery to remove the fragment later today (Saturday 6 February 2021).

Just before 11pm, officers were on patrol as part of an operation targeting anti-social behaviour when they saw a car parked at a reserve on Bayview Terrace at Earlwood. As four officers approached the sedan from behind, the male driver and struck one of the officers.
