Visiting rules to be relaxed at South Cumbria hospitals
People will be able to visit loved ones in hospital more frequently from Monday in South Cumbria as health bosses announce a relaxation of rules from Monday.
Patients staying longer than seven days in certain wards at Furness General Hospital, Millom Community Hospital and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary have been able to designate a visitor for some time.
From Monday, visiting will now open to patients across the Morecambe Bay trust who have stayed longer than seven days on any adult hospital wards, including if they transfer to one of trust’s hospitals.

The son of a former mayor who served her local community for more than two decades has paid tribute to her life.
Avril Dobson, who served as a Kendal Town Councillor for the Kirkland ward between 1976 and 2006 and served as mayor on two occasions – has died at the age of 82.
She passed away at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary on May 3 after suffering heart failure.
“She was a good mother, quite strict,” remembers son Russell, 63.
“We were brought up to look after ourselves. She wasn’t going to iron for you. If you didn’t do it, you weren’t getting it done.
A nurse who moved from the Philippines to work at Furness General Hospital (FGH) has spoken about the ‘emotional’ but rewarding work of caring for Covid patients to mark International Nurses Day today. Lemuel Saberon is one of many international nurses from University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust (UHMBT) to speak about his experiences to mark the day, which is the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The 30-year-old, known as ‘L’ to friends and colleagues, first came to UHMBT in 2018. He worked on the respiratory ward at FGH before working on Ward 23; a rehabilitation ward at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI).
