Heavy heart as hospital loses second porter in a week to coronavirus

Tributes have been paid to a “hardworking and caring” porter who has died from coronavirus a week after a colleague at the same Staffordshire hospital. Mark Elliott, a father of three from Stoke-on-Trent who had worked at Royal Stoke University Hospital for the last five years, died on Valentine’s Day aged 64. His death came just seven days after that of fellow porter John “Adam” Jackson with the virus. Both were employed by outsourcing company Sodexo. Tracy Bullock, chief executive of University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, said colleagues had started the week with a “heavy heart” after losing “another of our portering staff to Covid”.

Mark Elliott, 64, from Stoke-on-Trent, died from coronavirus yesterday. His death comes just a week after his colleague John Jackson, 64. Both men worked at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Person airlifted to hospital after crash on Wrexham Industrial Estate

Updated: Mon 15th Feb This article is old - Published: Monday, Feb 15th, 2021 A person has been airlifted to hospital following a crash on the Wrexham Industrial Estate. Shortly after 2:15pm there were reports of a collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist near the Bridge Road South roundabout. The air ambulance was seen landing in the area shortly after. A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to the Bridge Street South area of Wrexham today, Monday 15 February, at approximately 2.18pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a van. “We sent the Wales Air Ambulance to the scene and one patient was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital by air for further treatment.”
