One of North Staffordshire s most prominent GPs says family doctors are busier than ever - as coronavirus lockdown restrictions continue to ease.
Silverdale GP Paul Scott - who is chairman of the North Staffs Local Medical Committee - has hit back at claims that patients have found it near impossible to get a face-to-face consultation with their family GP during the pandemic.
Hundreds of campaigners are calling for the immediate release of a mechanic jailed over the death of a hammer-wielding vandal during an attempted citizen s arrest.
The petition has demanded that Home Secretary Priti Patel intervene in the case of Benjamin Hunt, 32, who is currently serving a 38-month prison sentence.
The father-of-two had chased Christopher Walters, 25, after he had damaged a car with a sledgehammer in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, in May 2019.
Hunt then held Mr Walters by the neck, on the ground, for several minutes, using his body weight to pin him down even after Mr Walters lost consciousness.
Staffordshire Police took 19 minutes to attend and Mr Walters was later pronounced dead at the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a 25-year-old man have lifted all their police cordons.
Remer Street, Elder Road and Church Terrace, in Cobridge, are this morning back open to pedestrians and traffic after being taped off following Sunday night s incident. The car park to Cobridge Community Health Centre is also now back open.

A woman has been taken to hospital after she became trapped in a car following a collision on a North Staffordshire road.
Emergency services were called to Sidmouth Avenue, in Newcastle, at around 5.20pm yesterday (May 10), following a collision involving a Renault Captur and a Toyota Auris.
