A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: Crews arrived to find fire colleagues working to release the man from beneath a large tree branch which had fallen onto him. Ambulance staff worked quickly to assess the man who had sustained serious injuries in the incident and received advanced trauma care on scene. Once his condition was stabilised, the man was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further emergency care.
Police have confirmed they are now investigating how the tree fell.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: Officers were called to Stapenhill Gardens, Burton, shortly after 1pm this afternoon to reports a man had been struck by a tree.

A boy and a girl at the same school have been taken to hospital after two 999 calls.
Paramedics were first called to Discovery Academy, in Bentilee, following reports of an unresponsive girl.
And a second ambulance was scrambled after a boy hit his head on a door.
