Dharmapuri A doctor was allegedly assaulted by a caretaker of a patient at the Government Medical College Hospital here on Thursday. The assault comes in the wake of 8 PG doctors testing positive and stepped into isolation. “The PG doctors were working at the COVID ward. Everyday we see infections in doctors and nurses. Amid routine cases of infections to our doctors, they are putting in work round the clock,” Dr. Amudavalli said.

3,688 beds kept ready to be used in COVID hospitals
Kozhikode District Collector S. Sambasiva Rao has claimed that steps have been taken to ensure treatment for at least 75,000 COVID-19 patients at various health facilities. As many as 3,688 beds have been kept ready to be used in COVID hospitals.
He told the media at an online press meet on Thursday that the available capacity would not have to be utilised to the maximum. A district-level war room has been functioning to monitor the usage of intensive care units (ICU), ventilators, and oxygen cylinders. Data from hospitals will be updated every four hours. Coordinators have been appointed at hospitals to ensure proper treatment.

She was born to a 71-year-old woman A one-and-a-half-month-old baby girl born to a 71-year-old woman from Ramapuram, near Kayamkulam, through in-vitro fertilization died reportedly after milk got stuck in her throat.
The child who choked on milk on May 3 died at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Alappuzha, the same night.
The child was born to Sudharma on March 18 via C-section at MCH, Alappuzha. After the child’s premature birth, she had spent 40 days in the hospital, before being discharged last week.
Ms. Sudharma, a retired teacher, and her husband Surendran, a retired police telecommunication officer, despite their old age, decided to have a child after their 35-year-old son died in Saudi Arabia one-and-a-half years ago.

Jailed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Ashraf Sehrai, a close aide of senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, died in a Jammu hospital on Wednesday.
According to hospital sources, Sehrai developed pneumonia in the Udhampur Jail and was shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu on Tuesday.

COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the district. The district recorded 3,731 cases on Wednesday and 1,532 people recovered from the disease. Test positivity rate in the district is 26.13%. Most parts of the district have been declared containment zones.
Active cases in the district are 41,708 and 110 people from the district are undergoing treatment in various other districts. So far 1,65,924 COVID-19 cases have been reported from the district and 1,23,856 people have recovered.
According to official statistics, 3,705 people, including nine health-care workers, contracted the disease through local contact on Wednesday. Of them, 573 are above the age of 60 and 205 are children below 10. In all, 3,581 people are under home care.
