SHAHDOL: Amid tall claims made by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government about adequate oxygen supply in Madhya Pradesh, at least six critical COVID patients died overnight allegedly due to low oxygen pressure at the government medical college in Shahdol district.
While unconfirmed reports put the casualty figure at 10 deaths, the Medical College management and the Shahdol district administration said low oxygen pressure cannot be blamed for the deaths, as it could have happened due to co-morbidities among the highly critical patients.

Things are back to square one at the two government hospitals designated for COVID-19 treatment in Kozhikode district – the Government Medical College Hospital and the Government General Hospital – as they are being readied to handle the ongoing surge in new COVID-19 infections. The district administration has directed private hospitals also to set aside beds even as over 2,000 fresh cases were reported on Sunday.

“Out of 62 patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward of the medical college’s COVID-19 centre, six patients died due to low pressure of liquid oxygen late last night,” the facility’s dean, Dr. Milind Shiralkar, said.
