Awareness creation on rare diseases is key, say experts Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Creation of social awareness about rare diseases was key to bettering the condition of the patients, participants at a seminar and panel discussion held online to mark Rare Disease Day on Sunday observed. It was organised by the Department of Paediatrics, Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, New Delhi-based CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB), and the Kozhikode chapter of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics (IAP). Mohandas Nair from the MCH, Kozhikode; Shefali Gulati from All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi; Vinod Scaria from IGIB; Aman Sharma from the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, Punjab; and Sumita Danda from Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore, presented papers.

While 7,726 people are recovering at home, 33 patients are at the Government Medical College Hospital, 54 at PVS Hospital, 11 at the Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital and 406 at private hospitals. At first-line treatment centres, 119 people are recuperating. At second-line treatment centres, 143 people are admitted. For testing, 6,869 samples were sent on Saturday. So far, 418 patients have succumbed to the infection in the district.

As many as 345 people tested negative on the day, while 9,072 people are recovering from the infection. A total of 7,888 people are recovering at home, 36 patients are at the Government Medical College Hospital, 55 patients are at PVS Hospital, and 405 patients are being treated at private hospitals. At FLTCs, 120 people are being monitored and 154 people are at SLTCs. Thrikkakara recorded 19 new cases on Friday, Piravom 13, and Vengoor 12. Angamaly, Kalamassery and Nedumbassery registered 10 new cases each.
