NAGPUR: To check and contain cases, if any, of coronavirus-2, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has chalked out a plan to track and test all air passengers who returned from Europe, Middle East or South Africa in the last one month. Also, it has been made mandatory for flyers who landed in India outside Maharashtra to sign an undertaking at airport that they did not travel from these countries in last 15 days.
Municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B appealed to air passengers who returned from Europe, Middle East or South Africa in last one month to call up NMC’s control room (0712-2567021) with details of their travel. “Our team will visit them, check for symptoms and get them RT-PCR tested. Participation from public is must to check and contain this virus in larger interest of the public and city,” he said.
414 persons recover from illness in the district
Ernakulam district recorded 686 new COVID-19 cases and 414 recoveries on Tuesday.
Six health workers were among those who were infected, and the source of infection in 173 people could not be traced.
While Kothamangalam registered 26 new cases, Chittattukara recorded 25 and Manjalloor 24. Thripunithura, Palluruthy, and Fort Kochi saw 20 new cases each. A police officer also tested positive on the day.
A total of 29,520 people remain in quarantine, and the district’s active case load stands at 8,499. For testing, 8,349 swabs were sent on Tuesday.
While 6,437 people are recovering from the infection at home, 95 patients are admitted at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery, 58 at PVS Hospital, 231 at FLTCs, and 378 at SLTCs.

Last week, an 11-year-old boy died in Kozhikode, Kerala due to a Shigella infection. The State Health Department said that six people had been confirmed as havinh the infection and over 30 people had been treated as suspected cases. The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, has begun an investigation into the outbreak.
Shigella is a genus of bacteria that causes an infection called shigellosis. It is the second leading cause of bacterial diarrhea worldwide and the third leading cause of death in children less than 5 years old.

The source of infection in 74 newly infected people could not be determined.
Kalamassery registered 16 new cases, while Kadamakkudy and Thrikkakara recorded 15 each. Four health workers were tested positive.
While 28,259 people are in quarantine, the district’s active case load is 8,231. A total of 4,621 samples were sent for testing on Monday.
A majority of those recovering from the disease 6,447 people remain at home, while 91 patients are admitted at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kalamassery, 56 are at PVS Hospital, 24 are at the Fort Kochi Taluk Hospital, 511 patients are being treated at private hospitals, and 261 people are being monitored at first-line treatment centres.
