The Nebraska Cattlemen Association is working on and backing four pieces of legislation being heard in the Unicameral. Association Vice President of Government Affairs Ashley Kohls says there are a pair of broadband bills they want to see passed.
She says they’re also backing Senator Brandt’s Herd Share Bill which is a two part measure. Kohls says the first part helps connect consumers with producers and the second part creates an independent small meat processor grant program.
Kohls says they also want LB 252 approved which adjusts the veterinary drug distribution act.
Kohls says LB 252 gives producers a 30 day window to refill prescriptions should the veterinarian who prescribed those passes away.

The Nebraska Cattlemen Association has set their major goals for State Senators for their 2021 legislative session. Association Vice President of Government Affairs Ashley Kohls says there are four primary areas they’re looking at with the first two being modernization of the brand law and broadband access.
She says their other two focus areas includes veterinary drugs and property taxes.
Kohls says because they have a diverse membership, their take on brands is also diverse, so their policy reflects that and they’ll be hoping to get some compromise on that included in brand legislation going forward.
