Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had announced to provide free COVID-19 vaccines to journalists and their families. Following the footsteps of several other states like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Odisha and others had declared journalists as frontline warriors and decided to give them priority in their respective vaccination drive.
Meanwhile, the national capital on Friday reported 19,832 new COVID 19 cases, around 19,085 recoveries and 341 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per data released by Health Department. With these numbers, the total cases now stand at 12,92,867 with 11,83,093 total recoveries.

Delhi requires 700 metric tonnes of oxygen every day. We have been requesting the central government to help arrange the same. For the first time yesterday, Delhi received 730 MT of oxygen, the Chief Minister said in his letter to the Prime Minister. On behalf of the people of Delhi, I thank you. I request you to see that Delhi gets this amount of oxygen on a daily basis and that there is no cut, he added.

New Delhi, May 1: In a shocking incident highlighting oxygen scarcity in the national capital, eight Covid-19 patients, including a senior doctor, died at a leading hospital here due to oxygen shortage.
Batra Hospital Medical Director Dr SCL Gupta said one of the dead was the head of the gastroenterology department, Dr RK Imrani, who was under medical care for Covid-19.
Dr Gupta said that six of the eight who died were in the Intensive Care Unit on high flow oxygen.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted soon after Gupta went on record to talk about the incident, This news is very painful. Their lives could have been saved by giving oxygen on time. Delhi should be given its quota of oxygen. Such deaths of our people should not happen. Delhi required 976 tonnes of oxygen and yesterday (Friday) only 312 tonnes of oxygen was given. How does Delhi breathe?

After being lambasted by the court over distributing Covid-19 drug Fabiflu, BJP MP Gautam Gambhir will now provide 200 oxygen concentrators to those having mild or moderate symptoms of the infection in the national capital.
The East Delhi MP said the oxygen concentrators will be provided free of cost and the step has been taken to strengthen the city’s fight against the deadly second wave of Covid-19 which has cost so many lives.
