Arizona ready to begin vaccinating children ages 12 to 15 with Pfizer

A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory committee on vaccines followed with a recommendation Wednesday. The full CDC subsequently recommended Pfizer be used in that age group and said providers can start vaccinating 12- through 15-year-olds right away.  The Arizona Department of Health Services is coordinating vaccinations of that age group to start Thursday at state sites, some pharmacies and other places.

State reaches out to Mesa for vaccinations

Maricopa County is behind the state average. And Mesa is behind the county average. With much of the city seeming reluctant to get COVID-19 vaccinations, Arizona Department of Health Services held a COVID-19 vaccine telephone town hall “for those living in areas of Mesa identified for highly targeted outreach on COVID-19 vaccinations.” On May 5, AZDHS Director Dr. Cara Christ took questions from callers and gave a pep talk “to encourage every Arizonan to be vaccinated.” The event was open to phone calls from Mesa City Council districts 3 and 5. According to Steve Elliot, an AZDHS spokesman, “More than 3,300 people participated in the call. These are people who received the automated invitation call and stayed on the line. There was an automated call the day before inviting people to accept the call the next day.”
