Governor Ducey Issues Executive Order To Meet Growing Job Demand, Support Employers Published: 10 May 2021 10 May 2021 Phoenix, Arizona - Governor Doug Ducey Monday issued an Executive Order to meet surging job demand and support job creators throughout Arizona as employment opportunities grow and the COVID-19 vaccine is available for anyone who wants it. Today’s Order rescinds a March 2020 Executive Order that waived the requirement that an individual receiving employment benefits must be actively looking for work in order to receive the benefits. The Arizona Department of Economic Security will begin enforcing the reinstated requirement the week of Sunday, May 23. “A year out from the start of the pandemic, jobs and vaccines are readily available,” said Governor Ducey. “Arizonans are ready to get back to work. Ex-Phoenix City Councilman Tom Simplot named Arizona housing director

Simplot replaces outgoing Director Carol Ditmore, who has led the department since 2017.  When I was approached about the possibility, I immediately jumped at the chance, Simplot told The Arizona Republic.  The timing is crucial and with the federal funding that will become available and is available and with the surge in homelessness on our streets, it feels as if this is our time as a community, as a state, to really address this in a meaningful and sustainable way.   Ducey also announced $500 million of federal funds to combat homelessness in Arizona. The money comes from the stimulus packages approved by Congress in December 2020 and March 2021.
