MUMBAI: Despite a low turnout for the Covid vaccination on Tuesday, Maharashtra became the first state in the country to complete four crore vaccination doses. “Maharashtra today again set a record in corona preventive vaccination and crossed the 4-crore mark. As many as 4,00,24,701 vaccines have been administered in the state so far,” said additional chief secretary (health) Dr Pradip Vyas.
The total number of citizens who took the first dose is 3,06,99,339, while 93,52,362 are fully vaccinated. “Around 1.2 lakh people were inoculated across the state till Tuesday afternoon and this number may increase till evening,” added Dr Vyas.
The state usually vaccinates three to four lakh people daily, but sources said the turnout was less than two lakh on Tuesday because of low availability of vaccines.

Health officials send samples from 7-yr-old for further testing to explore other ailments
The death of a seven-year-old resident of Parvati due to suspected
diphtheria has raised an alarm in the health department, given the fact that vaccination against the disease has been going on for a long.
The boy was suffering from a sore throat and fever and later complained of difficulty in swallowing.
He died on Tuesday at the
Sassoon General Hospitals while undergoing treatment. His death has triggered several questions whether it’s a periodic outbreak of the disease or children are been left from the rigorous immunisation programme against the deadly disease.
The city added 600 Covid cases for the fourth day in a row
PUNE: The state government has directed all district and civic officials to give priority jabs to the nearly 19 lakh people who are now up for their second dose of the Covid vaccine.
As on July 8, about 19.19 lakh citizens from all groups healthcare staff, frontline workers and 18-plus are due for a second dose (either Covishield or Covaxin), across the state’s 35 districts. Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur and Kolhapur have the highest number of beneficiaries.
The move to give these people priority jabs comes in the wake of a central directive that asked states to have a “regular review of beneficiaries due for the second dose and focus on timely completion of their vaccination schedule”.
