Carroll held on Tuesday after nearly giving up a 19 point lead in the final quarter. The Tigers dominated the first 24 minutes and led 60-43 heading into the final stanza. Kaleb Booth and Nick Macke were shooting the three really well combining for 8 in the game. The Tigers defense had held Jevin Sullivan to 17 points through 3 quarters. He scored more than that in the 4
th quarter. Sullivan went off for 27 points in the 4
th, finishing with 44 points. The Comets scored 33 points in the 4
th after scoring 43 in the first three quarters. A Nick Macke assist to Treyton Goins for a layup stemmed the tide briefly for Carroll. The Tigers saw a 62-43 lead cut to 70-68 before the Goins layup. Carroll built the lead back to 76-68 before the Comets charged again. Nick Macke and Colby Christensen hit enough free throws down the stretch to seal the deal.
The game was tight and swung back and forth in the 1
st quarter 5 lead changes and was tied at 13 late in the quarter before Kuemper edged ahead 14-13 at the break. Red Oak scored first in the 2
nd quarter and never trailed the rest of the game. Max DeVries got hot and helped them build the lead to 6. Kuemper brought in a new 5 guys who sparked them and Taye Vonnahme hit a shot from the free throw line tying the game at 23 but Kuemper couldn’t get the lead back.
Red Oak led by 3 at half but came out behind DeVries and went up 43-29. John Mayhall scored 8 straight points for Kuemper and then Mitchell Badding who had 9 in the 1
rd win of the season and 2
nd in a row. Catherine Mayhall exploded for 31 points hitting 5 three points and was deadly with runners in the lane. Kyndal Hilgenberg came up big with 13 points as the Knights played without second leading scorer Brooklyn Gifford.
Red Oak built an early 8-2 and 12-6 lead before Catherine Mayhall hit back to back 3’s to close out the 1
st quarter tying the game at 12. The Knights grabbed their first lead early in the 2
nd quarter only to see Red Oak answer and go up 16-14. The Tigers extended the lead to 26-19 before Mayhall and Kyndal Hilgenberg put them up for good. Mayhall drained a 3 to put them up 31-29 and them Hilgenberg knocked down a wing 3 to make it 34-29 and Kuemper would never trail again. Chloe DeVries wasn’t going to let Red Oak go down easy as she hit a pair of 3’s and the Tigers tied the game at 37 at the end of the 3
