The reign of telecoms shills meddling in internet regulations seems to be coming to a close, at least for now. The New York Times reports that Joe Biden has chosen Tim Wu, who’s credited with defining foundational concepts like net neutrality, to serve on the National Economic Council in a new role as a special assistant for technology and competition policy. While the extent of Wu’s power in an advisory role is still somewhat undefined, it’s represents a considerable step away from the corporate favor-trading that defined the Trump era.
There are signs the waiting could be over. It seems like Google has finally decided to start updating its major iOS apps. The company released an update for YouTube this weekend, more than two months after its last update.

February 5, 2021 Today the Allen Institute’s Chief Scientific Officer, Todd Peterson, Ph.D., announced plans to step down from his role effective March 1 to pursue other professional opportunities. Peterson joined the Allen Institute in December 2018, in the newly created role of Chief Scientific Officer. In his role he has overseen translational efforts and collaborations and advanced the long-term strategy for all four of the Institute’s divisions. Additionally, Peterson developed and led the Office of Science and Technology, formed the Institute’s Scientific Advisory Board and led the Science and Technology Committee of the Institute’s Board of Directors.
