TRUMBULL, CT Trumbull has received more in coronavirus-related reimbursements than it submitted to federal and state officials thanks to a change in a state formula.
Trumbull submitted coronavirus-related expenses to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Initially state officials directed towns to wait until FEMA gave approval on reimbursement before asking for reimbursement through the state s Coronavirus Relief Fund, said Finance Director Maria Pires during the Jan. 14 Board of Finance meeting. The state gave us more money than we submitted for reimbursement because they changed their formula method, they used a population formula instead of actual expenses, Pires said.

HARPURSVILLE, NY Employees at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York were in awe when they discovered just how rare one of their baby kangaroos is. Our jaws are on the floor! the park wrote on Facebook when announcing the birth of their newest resident: an all-white joey that just may be the only one in the country.
Animal Adventure Park, which isn t accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, said it is not aware of any leucistic red kangaroo in the United States, showing Just how rare this occurrence is.

Ossining High School senior Michael Pavelchek is one of 40 finalists in the prestigious Regeneron Science Talent Search for his research on allergic asthma.
Earlier this month, Michael and six other OHS seniors in the Science Research Program were selected as semifinalists for the 80th annual contest. Regeneron and the Society for Science chose 40 students from the top 300 scholars to advance to the finals, which will take place virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, from March 10-17. They will compete for more than $1.8 million in awards; each finalist will receive at least $25,000.

COMMACK, NY The coronavirus pandemic has led many to rely on virtual medical care, remote socialization and even online connections to loved ones. But seniors are at risk of not having the needed devices and knowledge to maintain routine medical care via telehealth appointments. A student-run nonprofit called TeleHealth Access for Seniors was founded in March 2020 to help address this need.
Vignesh Subramanian is a Stony Brook University student who read about the organization s mission in a student newsletter and saw it as an opportunity to help in a safe way during the pandemic. He now co-leads the New York chapter of the nonprofit which operates in 26 states.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Roy Thomas Goodrich, 93, of Wallingford, died Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Masonicare Health Center. He was the loving Husband of the late Eileen (Kelly) Goodrich.
He was born in Wallingford, CT, January 16, 1927, one of 15 children of the late Edwin and Mary (Chappo) Goodrich.
Roy grew up in Wallingford during the Great Depression. Along with his brothers, Roy worked at the family fuel business, Edward Goodrich Fuel Company.

At age 18, Roy left school and enlisted in the U.S. Army during the final months of World War II, the 6th in his family to serve in that war. He served in the 3rd Infantry in Europe under General Patton.
