BAILEY S CROSSROADS, VA On Thursday morning, Anne Stewart and Tony Tambasco rolled up their sleeves and received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the same time. That was a special moment for the couple, who celebrated their wedding just over four years ago in the same location.
Tambasco called it sheer relief to receive the vaccine. Stewart called it miraculous. They are among the first independent living residents at Goodwin House Bailey s Crossroads, a senior living community. Vaccinations are beginning for the community s independent living residents after assisted living and memory care residents, as well as some staff, received their first doses.

YONKERS, NY A Connecticut man was accused of shooting and killing a man in Yonkers Sunday.
The Yonkers Police Department said Claismar Abreu-Then, 27, of Hartford, Connecticut, was charged in Hartford on weapons and drug crimes and is awaiting extradition to Westchester County on a charge of second-degree murder, a felony.
Abreu-Then was taken into custody Thursday by members of the Yonkers police, Hartford police and FBI Northern Connecticut Violent Crime and Gang Task Force.

He was accused of killing Joseph Pichardo, 24, in the first-floor hallway of 54 Fairview St. in Yonkers Sunday.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA It was another frustrating day for residents hoping to get an appointment at a Riverside County-operated COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
Residents were allowed to sign up at noon Thursday to receive one of 3,900 COVID-19 vaccine doses to be administered at a series of county-run clinics, but all appointments were quickly taken.
During the sign-up process, the county s website crashed multiple times due to the number of people attempting to book appointments. Patch heard from dozens of disappointed community members who tried for hours to log onto the county site, only to learn that all appointments were filled.

ILLINOIS AMC Entertainment is set to reopen seven of its Illinois movie theaters Friday, with dozens more to reopen by the end of next week, as coronavirus-related restrictions start to loosen around the state.
Five of the seven theaters reopening Friday are in Chicago, with the others in Rockford and Carbondale, the company said in a news release. Nearly three dozen more AMC theaters in Illinois are set to reopen next Friday, Jan. 29, according to the company s schedule.

PROVIDENCE, RI While Rhode Island residents and others around the country continue to mask up and socially distance, these precautions are doing more than just curbing the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the latest report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of influenza cases in Rhode Island and others remains at unseasonably low levels despite an overall increase in administered tests.
For the week ending Jan. 16, flu activity remains minimal in all states and U.S. territories. The only exception is Tennessee, where reported flu activity is low. At this time last year, flu activity was high in at least 33 states.
