Assistance available to cover high summer power bills in Alabama Annie Mapp
It s part of a block grant through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. To qualify, applicants must be a resident of Alabama and need financial assistance with home energy costs.
Those who participate or have family members participating in certain other benefit programs, such as SNAP, SSI, TANF, automatically meet the eligibility requirement.
Community Service Programs of West Alabama has 1,200 appointments set up this week with residents needing energy bill assistance. Not only have we seen an increase of clients, we have seen a completely different demographic because of the COVID layoffs, closures, people who have never been assisted by us are now eligible for assistance, said Sontonia Stephenson.
