Bay Area Man Treated for Rare Blood Clot After Receiving J&J Vaccine

Bay Area Man Treated for Rare Blood Clot After Receiving J&J Vaccine UCSF officials on Monday said a Bay Area man in his early 30s is recuperating from treatment for a blood clot that formed after he received the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine. The man went to the hospital with severe pain in his leg and lower back last week, 13 days after getting his J&J shot, according to UCSF officials. Dr. Andrew Leavitt, a hematologist at the hospital, said he thinks this is the first reported male case in the U.S. As of Friday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had reported the condition in 15 people, all women, among the 8 million doses that have been administered nationally. It involves clots that occur together with low levels of blood-clotting platelets. It’s unclear, though, if there’s a connection between the vaccine and the clotting.

Twenty-two sites are slated to reopen on April 26 and 27 under COVID safety protocols. Aside from the ability to browse and pick up books on-hold, computers and printers will also be available for public use, at a socially distanced capacity.

County Reports 1 2 Million Vaccination Doses Issued

ALAMEDA, CA — Last week, all Californians, aged 16 and older, became eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. While eligibility expanded, supply continues to be a challenge that public health agencies are working to address. At a regional level, the Alameda County Public Health Department (ACPHD) is working to keep pace. The agency reports administering over 1.2 million doses, as of Tuesday this week. Data pertinent to the Tri-Valley cities show that Dublin has fully vaccinated 16,761 people; Livermore 24,541; and Pleasanton 23,072. The ACPHD’s dashboard continues to show death rates by ethnicity, with African Americans bearing the brunt of the deaths. The figures for each ethnic background are reported as per 100,000 population. The figure for African Americans is 158.6 per 100,000 population. Multiracial people have 146.6, and Pacific Islanders report at 135.8. Populations with lower instances of deaths per 100,000 are Asians at 53.6, Whites at 82.7 and Hispanic/Latino
