He is in custody at Santa Rita Jail here in Alameda County. The disappearance of Makayla Garrett is a tragic story that has gripped the Bay Area for decades. Suspect charged with felony assault, felony vandalism

According to a UCPD community advisory sent out Friday, Hugo Alcala, a 34-year-old Concord male, was charged with felony vandalism and felony assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect was arrested by UCPD officers in Oakland on Saturday evening.

Following two aggravated assaults, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged a suspect with felony vandalism and felony assault with a deadly weapon Tuesday.
The suspect is Hugo Alcala, identified as a 34-year-old male from Concord, California, with no affiliation to UC Berkeley, according to a UCPD community advisory sent Friday.

Oakland police have arrested a suspect on suspicion of committing a series of sexual assaults in the Lake Merritt area.
Police arrested one person on suspicion of a series of sexual assaults on women near Oakland’s Lake Merritt, authorities said Thursday.
The Alameda County District Attorney charged Isaiah Meleke Lawrence, 20, with rape, attempted rape and robbery, kidnapping and robbery. He is being held without bail.
The arrest came in connection with the Police Department’s Special Victims Unit investigation of sexual assaults that occurred in the Lake Merritt and downtown Oakland area over the past two months, officials said.

Authorities in Oakland have noticed an uptick in carjackings and armed robberies by young people, some as young as 11 years old.
OAKAND, Calif. - Police are seeing an alarming trend of teenagers committing violent crimes and in some cases, the offenders are no older than middle school-aged children.
Oakland Police Lt. Robert Muniz said the uptick in crime began in late November and has continued across the city. He said groups of teenagers are holding people up at gunpoint and robbing them or stealing their cars. In some instances, the juveniles use the stolen cars to commit other robberies. The most recent case in East Oakland involved suspects ranging in age from 11 to 16.
