New and upcoming Undergraduate Research Symposium
The first ever all-discipline Undergraduate Research and Creative Collaborations Symposium will be held virtually on April 30, showcasing more than 120 projects across the sciences, social sciences and humanities. As of now, the symposium is the only event that covers research across all disciplines in the undergraduate population.
Director of Undergraduate-Faculty Research Partnerships Margaret Lynch and Senior Associate Director of Communications and Marketing for the School of Arts and Sciences Simon Goodacre spoke with The Brandeis Hoot about the event and the recent efforts to develop undergraduate research opportunities at Brandeis.
A sample of each student’s project will be opened to the public on April 28, where attendees can preview content and leave comments. The opportunity to engage with projects beforehand can help attendees produce more insightful and directed questions for presenters, Lynch explains.

The Woodruff, Whitehead, and Evans Foundations have named Georgia State University Honors College senior Myah Vogt as their 2021 fellow.
Vogt, a graduating senior from Fayetteville (30215) who is majoring in Applied Linguistics, Spanish, is the first Georgia State student to receive this distinction.
Starting in August, Vogt will begin her yearlong fellowship, working closely with the foundations’ staff to learn about their mission, management, and grant-making.
“You can’t go anywhere in Atlanta without seeing and feeling the impact of the foundations, whether it’s Woodruff Park on campus or the arts center,” Vogt said. “That’s what’s exciting for me about this opportunity with the foundations-they love Atlanta as much as I do.”
With 17 recipients for the 2020-2021 school year, UT ranked highest in the SEC for the number of students accepted into the Fulbright Program and placed higher on the list of top Fulbright producing institutions than several Ivy League universities.Â
The Fulbright, a prestigious scholarship funded by the U.S. Department of State, sends around 2,200 U.S. students to over 140 countries each year in order to do research or teach English with the goal of cultural exchange and empathy building.Â
The success that UT students have in applying not only to the Fulbright, but to other top scholarships including the Rhodes Scholarship and the Goldwater Scholarship, is due in large part to the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, which works with applicants over the course of many months to refine their applications through in-depth conversations, strategic plans and essay revisions.Â
