Philippines looks to improve disaster preparedness with geospatial tech by Rosy Mina on 10 March 2021 The Philippines is among the topmost vulnerable countries in the world to natural disasters and climate impacts. Last year, the country experienced a volcanic eruption, a series of major earthquakes, and successive typhoons that inundated more than 60 towns and cities. Knowing the country’s vulnerability level to disasters, various government agencies rolled out a series of apps to aid local government officials in crafting local solutions to these disasters. These solutions are based on the National Exposure Database (NED), a platform that collates data to aid in policymaking.

Health workers urged to avail of COVID-19 vaccines

ILOILO CITY, March 9 (PIA) - - Health officials urged health workers of West Visayas State University-Medical Center (WVSU-MC) here to avail of the Sinovac vaccines to be protected against coronavirus disease 2019. “You were lucky that you were given priority for the allocation of the vaccine, inasmuch as we have the scarcity of the vaccine,” said Depatment of Health (DOH) 6 Director Emilia Monicimpo during a program held to start the COVID 19 vaccination roll-out at WVSU-MC covered gym in La Paz district on March 8. Monicimpo said the national government has come up with certain guidelines in the prioritization of those who will receive the vaccines with the objective that these will reduce the mortality against COVID and to preserve the health system capacity.
