By Ted Barrett and Caroline Kelly, CNN (CNN) Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell were both vaccinated against Covid-19 by Capitol Attending Physician Dr. Brian Monahan, the two congressional leaders announced separately Friday. Today, with confidence in science & at the direction of the Office of the Attending Physician, I received the COVID-19 vaccine, Pelosi tweeted. As the vaccine is being distributed, we must all continue mask wearing, social distancing & other science-based steps to save lives & crush the virus.
Less than an hour later, McConnell tweeted that he too had been vaccinated.

WASHINGTON â House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Democrat of California., and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Republican of Kentucky, received coronavirus vaccinations Friday afternoon, administered by the Capitolâs leading doctor as part of a plan he said is designed to preserve continuity of government.
Pelosi, 80, received a shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine from Brian Monahan, the attending physician of the US Congress and the Supreme Court.
Pelosiâs vaccination, viewed by the media, came just hours after Vice President Mike Pence received a dose at the White House complex on live television in a bid to build public confidence in the safety of coronavirus vaccines.

FDA authorizes Moderna s COVID vaccine for emergency use
The Food and Drug Administration authorized a second COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use. The new Moderna vaccine is similar to Pfizer s which was authorized for use last week. It also requires two doses, but it does not need to be kept as cold as Pfizer s.
FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn says delivery could begin nationwide by Monday. Unlike the Pfizer vaccine, Moderna s is approved for use only in adults.
