On Sept. 6, 2017, two intruders broke into a home on the 5500 block of Datil Pepper Road in St. Augustine, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office reported at the time. The victim told investigators he was awoken just before 9:45 a.m. by a man and woman carrying a knife and gun in his home west of Dixie Highway, the sheriff’s office said. The man pistol-whipped the victim, then tied him up before fleeing with cash and a small safe with jewelry. The victim did not know the defendant, according to the release. After Mirabal Bonora fled the scene with the money and jewelry, the victim was able to move himself to a window where he identified the getaway vehicle. He called the sheriff’s office from a neighbor’s home.
