email Watchdog Finds Education Department’s Return to Office Plan is Generally Good
The plan largely incorporates recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, White House, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
A watchdog found the Education Department’s plans to return employees to offices following telework during the novel coronavirus pandemic were generally sufficient.
The Education Department inspector general reviewed the agency’s plans to return its 4,000 employees safely back to workplaces nationwide. After encouraging agencies to “maximize” telework,
the Office of Personnel Management and Office of Management and Budget issued joint guidance in April that gave federal agencies discretion and flexibility in returning employees to workplaces during the pandemic.

The lack of any statement seeking to hold Russia responsible casts doubt on the likelihood of a swift response and suggests any retaliation whether through sanctions, criminal charges or cyber actions will be left in the hands of President-elect Joe Biden’s administration.
“I would imagine that the incoming administration wants a menu of what the options are and then is going to choose,” said Sarah Mendelson, a Carnegie Mellon University public policy professor and former U.S. ambassador to the U.N.’s Economic and Social Council. “Is there a graduated assault? Is there an all-out assault? How much out of the gate do you want to do?”

Democrats and some Republicans raised the alarm Thursday about a massive and growing cybersecurity breach that many experts blame on Russia, with President-elect Joe Biden implicitly criticizing the Trump administration for allowing the hacking attack to occur.
“We need to disrupt and deter our adversaries from undertaking significant cyber attacks in the first place,” Biden said in a statement. “Our adversaries should know that, as president, I will not stand idly by in the face of cyber assaults on our nation.”
