Agents Bust Woman Attempting to Cross Texas Border With Heroin Worth $1.5M

A woman was recently bused by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers after allegedly attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas with $1.5 million worth of heroin.
The incident occurred Monday at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge in Texas, which is within the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry, the CBP said in a press release. CBP officers assigned to the bridge encountered a woman, who was identified only as a U.S. citizen from Edinburg, Texas, trying to cross the border from Mexico into the U.S. The woman was driving a Volkswagen Jetta.

PHARR, Texas (KTVT) A 28-year-old woman from Edinburg, Texas was arrested at the U.S.-Mexico border with $1,500,000 worth of alleged heroin hidden inside the tires of a Volkswagen Jetta she was driving.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations at the Pharr International Bridge discovered the narcotics on May 17.
“Our officers’ relentless dedication to CBP’s border security mission and robust enforcement posture contributed to the detection of these hard narcotics that will now be prevented from possibly inflicting harm within our communities,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Port of Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas.

WASHINGTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) unveiled a $46 million dollar initiative to enhance the security and efficiency of rail cargo inspections at locations throughout the United States.
Under the initiative, CBP will replace aging rail scanning systems at twelve rail ports of entry on the U.S. southern and northern land borders with high energy rail scanners. The new scanners use linear accelerators to generate X-rays from electricity rather than radioactive isotopes, producing high-quality images that support faster and more secure cargo inspections.

Customs and Border Protection officers seized $4 million in methamphetamine hidden in a commercial shipment of cucumber pickles. (CNN)Customs and Border Protection officers recently seized more than $4 million worth of suspected methamphetamine at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility, the agency said.
On April 17, CBP officers examined a tractor-trailer hauling a commercial shipment of fresh cucumber pickles into Texas with a non-intrusive imaging system and found it was hiding 114 packages of alleged methamphetamine weighing 217 pounds, according to a statement. That s $4,343,000 worth of drugs, CBP said.

CBP officers assigned to the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge on May 17 observed a woman approaching for entry into the U.S. while driving a Volkswagen Jetta, according to information obtained from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials. The officers referred the woman to a secondary inspection station where a K-9 alerted to an odor coming from the vehicle.
