Office of Police Oversight finds increase in contacts about APD interactions, decrease in officers disciplined in new report
This is the Austin office s first annual report of its kind since the OPO was fully established in 2018. Author: Maeve Ashbrook Updated: 7:55 AM CDT June 17, 2021
AUSTIN, Texas The Austin Office of Police Oversight (OPO) released its first-ever annual report Wednesday summarizing its work from 2019-2020.
The report found, among other things, an increase in contacts about Austin Police Department interactions and a decrease in APD officers disciplined.
In 2020, the OPO received 2,809 contacts about interactions with APD officers, just under 1,500 less than in 2019.
The city of Boise created the first version of its Office of Police Oversight more than 20 years ago. While it's changed over time, it's always been a place where the community can report a complaint against the police department and its officers.
