When we think of illegal immigration and its impact on America, opinions are sharply divided. The images invoked are “kids in cages,” large caravans, border rescues, and wild border chases between law enforcement and illegal immigrant smugglers.
The U.S. southern border is just a waypoint for migrants along a much larger journey. One that usually ends far from the deserts of Arizona, the brush country in Texas, or the beaches and mountains near San Diego.
According to the Pew Research Center, most of the undocumented immigrants within the United States live in just 20 major metropolitan areas. Ranking number one is the New York metro area which is home to 1.1 million illegal immigrants. Ranking number two is the Los Angeles metro area home to an estimated 925,000 illegal aliens.

FBI Investigating Officer-Involved Fatal Shooting of Illegal Alien
HIDALGO, TX – On January 29, 2021, at approximately 7:38 a.m., a United States Border Patrol agent was involved in a use-of-force incident in Hidalgo, TX, approximately one mile away from the Hidalgo Port of Entry. The agent was responding to a report of several illegal entries. The incident occurred while the agent was attempting to apprehend a subject and the agent discharged his weapon.
The suspect, an adult male, sustained a gunshot wound. Agents on scene immediately rendered aid and contacted Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The injured subject was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he was pronounced deceased at 9:00 a.m.

A man trying to enter the United States illegally at the Mexican border with Texas was fatally shot by a Border Patrol agent, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The agent was investigating reports of people entering the U.S. illegally near the Hidalgo Port of Entry, about 230 miles south of San Antonio, when he shot the man while trying to arrest him Friday morning.
