Maryland State Police Investigate Man Found Lying On I-495 After Allegedly Jumping Out Of A Vehicle April 15, 2021 (COLLEGE PARK, Md.) – Maryland State Police are investigating an incident where a man was found lying in the travel portion of I-495 after allegedly jumping out of a vehicle. The man involved in the incident is identified as Mahmoud Diop, 30, of Washington, DC. Diop was transported by ambulance to the Prince George’s Hospital Center for medical treatment. Police are investigating whether impairment contributed to the incident. Shortly before 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, troopers from the College Park Barrack responded to the outer loop of 495 at Route 450 in College Park after numerous calls were received reporting a body lying in the roadway.  Upon their arrival, the body of a man wearing black sweatpants and a gray sweatshirt was found lying in the travel portion of I-495. April 15, 2021 The St. Mary’s County Public Schools released the following statement. “On April 13, 2021, at approximately 1:30 p.m., St. Mary’s County Public Schools was informed of an officer-involved shooting in Leonardtown. It was later reported that the shooting resulted in the death of a 16-year-old male, identified as Peyton Alexander Ham, a sophomore at Leonardtown High School. Superintendent Dr. J. Scott Smith asked for a moment of silence for Peyton at the Board of Education meeting this morning and followed later with this statement, “Our school community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Leonardtown High School student, Peyton Ham. Our school and community mourn his untimely death. We send our deepest condolences during this very difficult time to his family, our school community, and all those who knew him.”

State Police Investigate Shooting In Taneytown

State Police Investigate Shooting In Taneytown March 15, 2021 (TANEYTOWN, MD) – Maryland State Police are actively investigating a shooting that occurred early this afternoon in Taneytown. The victim is identified as Karlie Burkindine, 26, of Taneytown. Burkindine was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for medical treatment. Police believe the suspect, a juvenile, is related to the victim. He is not being identified at this time. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation and consultation with the Carroll County State’s Attorney’s Office.  Shortly before 1:15 p.m. today, the Taneytown Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting the incident in the unit block of York Street in Taneytown.  Officers responded to the home and found the victim with an apparent gunshot wound in her arm. The suspect had fled the scene.
