Norwich A man who was wanted in a fatal shooting here last year has been arrested in North Carolina and returned to Connecticut, city police said in a news release late Tuesday night.
Phillip C. Wise, 40, with a last known address of 37 Lake St., Norwich, faces a murder charge, police said.
Officers responded to a reported shooting July 21, 2020, on Lake Street, in which 39-year-old Anthony Lashawn Williams was killed. Police identified Wise as a suspect during the investigation and maintain that the shooting appeared to be a targeted attack against Williams.

Judge asks for release of nearly 2,000 inmates to avoid killing field at Harris County Jail

This weekend, the Harris County Jail could run out of room to house inmates. And guards are struggling to pull off quarantines for new arrivals, according to Harris County sheriff’s officials.
A federal judge seeking to prevent the downtown facility from becoming a “killing field” amid soaring COVID-19 infections asked state judges, lawyers and court officials on Friday to swiftly review about 2,000 inmates for bail reductions or pretrial or post-conviction releases.
