Just an accident ? Judge reduces bond in Killeen manslaughter case | Crime

A Bell County judge last week subtracted $625,000 from the bond amount that had been set in the case of a Killeen woman who was indicted last month on two felony charges after police said she caused an accident last year that left a 23-year-old man dead and another man injured. Prior to the hearing, Alexus Nicol Williams, 23, was being held in the Bell County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $750,000, on second-degree felony charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. After hearing brief testimony from Williams and arguments from the attorneys, Judge Paul LePak on Thursday reduced the bond on the manslaughter charge from $500,000, to $75,000, and the assault bond from $250,000, to $50,000.

Preliminary investigation reveal the Malibu was heading northbound on SH 195 in the outside lane approaching the intersection. Accordingly, the Corolla, heading southbound on SH 195, turned left at the intersection, went through the crossover, in an-attempt to cross the northbound lanes onto Chaparral. The driver of the Corolla, Alexus Nicole Williams, failed to yield right of way to the Malibu, causing the Malibu to strike the Corolla s right passenger side.

Alexus Nicole Williams, 23, has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. She is currently in the Bell County Jail. Killeen police say that just before 7 p.m. on August 12, 2020, officers were dispatched to the intersection of SH 195 and Chaparral Road for a 911 call about a major crash.  The preliminary investigation showed that a silver Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north on SH 95 in the outside lane approaching the intersection when a white Toyota Corolla, driven by Williams, traveling south turned left at the intersection, through the crossover, in an attempt to cross the northbound lanes onto Chaparral, says KPD.

The crash was reported around 6:51 PM that day. According to investigators, Williams was driving a Toyota Corolla south along 195 when she turned left at the intersection with Chaparral. Having failed to yield the right of way to a northbound Chevy Malibu, Williams vehicle was struck on the passenger side by the oncoming car.
