Wrong way crash leads to interstate closure, arrest

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) A drunk driver traveling the wrong direction on Interstate 526 in South Carolina hit a tanker head-on, leading to a gas leak that closed both sides of the interstate for hours, police said.
There were injuries, but none considered life-threatening, Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis told multiple news outlets.
The crash happened about 1:30 a.m. Friday. The tanker was carrying gasoline which leaked onto the highway, prompting the closure.
Facing charges of driving under the influence is Madison Slawson, 25. A police report said Slawson was incapacitated at the trauma unit and police said her eyes were watery and bloodshot and noted “a strong odor of alcoholic beverage was emanating from her person and breath.”

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriffâs Office said two people are facing charges after leading deputies on a chase Thursday night.
Tyler Legare, 23, is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and failure to stop for blue lights, according to jail records.
Anthony Charles Louis Gethers, 21, is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and a drug charge, records state.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Charleston Police say a drunk driver traveling the wrong direction on I-526 struck a tanker, leading to a gas leak that closed the interstate for hours.

By 10 a.m. on Friday, all lanes of I-526 had been reopened, police spokesman Charles Francis said.
The crash was initially reported at 1:27 a.m. and blocked both sides of the interstate. The tanker was carrying gasoline and gasoline leaked onto the roadway. Charleston Fire, Police and EMS responded along with an environmental service company.
