Jackson seeking seat on City Council | News, Sports, Jobs

Bridgette Jackson, a Democrat from Grant Avenue, is running for Altoona City Council. The 33-year-old holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. She is a Store Solutions Supervisor at Sheetz. “Altoona has always been very good to me,” Jackson said. “I grew up in this community, graduated from Altoona Area High School and it has supported me through many transitions and milestones in my life. “It gave me family, a home, a career and an incredible support system. It provided the public education I needed to excel and succeed in other areas of my life, allowed me to engage in a community and has afforded me the opportunities to question, learn and flourish.”

Altoona Area High School to get Vaping Sensors

Altoona Area High School to get Vaping Sensors 7:09 pm Altoona Area High School received 30 vape sensors Today from the UPMC Altoona Foundation and the Lung Disease Foundation of Central Pennsylvania. The vape sensors will be installed in restrooms and locker rooms. Over the past several years the district has seen an increase reflected at the high school.. Vaping made up 98 percent of the tobacco violations in 2019-2020. The sensors are being provided through grant funding.

Stephanie Walker Badorrek | News, Sports, Jobs

Badorrek Stephanie G. Badorrek, 61, of Altoona, passed away Friday morning, April 9, 2021, at her residence after courageously fighting a two-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was born the daughter of the late Harry C. Walker Jr. and Marjorie (Dunnenberger) Walker. She married Harry W. Badorrek Jr. on May 2, 1981. In addition to her husband, surviving are a son, Stephen (Nicole) of Altoona; a sister, Susan (Philip) Harrison of New Castle; and a brother, H. Scott Walker of Altoona. Stephanie was a born again Christian and longtime member of Altoona Alliance Church. She was a 1977 graduate of Altoona Area High School. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Alliance Church, 3220 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 1 p.m., with Pastor Philip R. Harrison officiating.

Kelley seeking to retain council seat | News, Sports, Jobs

Kelley Bruce Kelley, 61, of Seneca Avenue, is seeking re-election as a Republican for Altoona City Council. Kelley was first elected in 2004 and is currently serving his fourth term. “I’m proud of the progress we’ve made as we position Altoona for the future, Kelley said. “But there is still a lot more work to do.” Kelley plans to build on relationships he’s established over the years with local, county and state officials. Kelley says the priorities of council should be to improve the city’s infrastructure, promoting economic development and investment in the downtown, and maintaining the city’s recreational opportunities.
