The 2021 edition of the Best Warrior Competition will take place at Camp Swift this week. An international military competition featuring armed forces members from Chile, the Czech Republic, Egypt and Texas will take place in Bastrop County this week. The 2021 edition of the Best Warrior Competition is scheduled to run from Wednesday through Sunday at the Camp Swift Training Center a U.S. military training camp built in 1942 north of Bastrop.

9 MANSFIELD, Ohio – Tech. Sgt. Joseph Leitz, a squad leader with the 179th Security Forces Squadron, was awarded Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year for the state of Ohio on Jan. 9, 2021. Next, Leitz won the regional level of competition and will be advancing to the national level. “I received a call today from Maj. Gen. James Camp” Leitz said, “He let me know that I had been selected as the winner at the regional level. It was pretty awesome that he called me personally to let me know. He told me this is the kind of thing that can really change your career path and that he was very proud to have an Ohioan moving on to represent us at the National Guard Bureau.”

He was in the country from February 23 to February 24, 2021. During the visit, he met with several Ghanaian leaders, including President Nana Akufo-Addo; both current and immediate past Chiefs of Defence Staff Rear Admiral Seth Amoama and Lieutenant General Obed Akwa, respectively; Minister of Defence-designate Dominic Nitiwul and other senior members of the Ghana Armed Forces. General Townsend stressed the need for joint security cooperation between the two countries.
