(JEFFERSON CITY, MO) – In order to address workforce shortages across the state, Governor Mike Parson today directed the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DOLIR) to notify the U.S. Department of Labor that Missouri will end participation in all federal pandemic-related unemployment insurance programs effective Saturday, June 12 at 11:59 p.m.
“From conversations with business owners across the state, we know that they are struggling not because of COVID-19 but because of labor shortages resulting from these excessive federal unemployment programs,”
Governor Parson said. “While these benefits provided supplementary financial assistance during the height of COVID-19, they were intended to be temporary, and their continuation has instead worsened the workforce issues we are facing. It’s time that we end these programs that have ultimately incentivized people to stay out of the workforce.”

Women earn 8.9% less than men at nonprofit organizations with the gap becoming greater when there is room for salary negotiations. Women close some of the gap if there are more woman on the organization’s board.
The paper, “Negotiation and Executive Gender Pay Gaps in Nonprofit Organizations,” was accepted for publication in the Review of Accounting Studies.
The study was co-authored by Curtis Hall, Ph.D., an associate professor at Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business; Andrew R. Finley, assistant professor at the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance at Claremont McKenna College; and LeBow College of Business doctoral student Amanda R. Marino.

Governor McMaster has set a date for South Carolina to stop participating in federal unemployment benefit programs related to the pandemic.
As of June 30th, South Carolina will no longer offer Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation, Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation, Emergency Unemployment Relief for Governmental Entities and Nonprofit Organizations, or Temporary Federal Funding of the First Week of Compensable Regular Unemployment for States with No Waiting Week.
McMaster says the supplemental unemployment payments are causing the state s labor shortage. The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce says there are over 81-thousand open positions in the state.
