National flag carrier on Thursday announced the inaugural direct flight from Lahore to Bahrain. According to the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) spokesperson, the national carrier will operate weekly two flights to Bahrain, for which arrangements have been put in place. The first flight will leave for Bahrain from Allama Iqbal International Airport on May 7 (Friday), while the second PIA flight will depart for Bahrain from New Islamabad International Airport on May 10. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has allowed PIA to operate weekly two flights for Bahrain. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has slashed 80 international flights in the light of National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) directives to contain the surge of the third wave of coronavirus. GILGIT: The Pakistan International Airline’s first-ever direct flight from Lahore landed at the Skardu Airport here on Wednesday.
The PK-8453 flight took off from the Allama Iqbal International Airport on Wednesday morning with 153 passengers onboard and landed at the Skardu Airport after one hour and 15 minutes.
The PIA officials received and presented bouquets of flowers to the passengers at the airport.
Later, a cake cutting ceremony was also held to celebrate the occasion.
Gilgit-Baltistan tourism minister Raja Nasir Ali Khan said the first PIA flight coming directly from Lahore also received a water cannon welcome upon landing at the Skardu Airport.
PIA Resumes Lahore-Islamabad Flights After Two Years
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed flight operations on the Lahore-Islamabad route, and the first flight on this route will depart from Lahore on 8 March.
PK-650 will be the first PIA flight to take off from Allama Iqbal International Airport on Monday at 8:30 AM to mark the resumption of flight operations after two years of suspension.

The national airline has confirmed that the frequency of its flights on this route will be three trips a week, and the initially announced fare will be Rs. 6,848.
Earlier this week, PIA had announced discounted fares for flights between Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, with the objective to promote tourism in the spring.
Maid tortured to death

LAHORE:A 14-year-old girl was tortured to death in the limits of Iqbal Town police area on Thursday.
The victim identified as Misbah served as a maid in a house in Nargis Block, Iqbal Town. Police shifted the body to morgue. The body bore severe marks of torture, police said. IG also took notice of the murder and directed the CCPO Lahore to submit a report in this regard and arrest the culprits.
Smuggling bid foiled: ANF foiled an attempt to smuggle 466 grams heroin through Cargo service at Allama Iqbal International Airport on Thursday. The narcotics were concealed in clothes. The parcel was booked by one Syed Baizad of Bahawalpur in the name of Shazia.
