VACCINATION RATES CONTINUE TO CLIMB ACROSS THE STATE. MORE THAN 6 MILLION DOSES HAVE NOW BEEN ADMINISTERED, BUT MANY PEOPLE STILL SAY THEY WON’T GET THE VACCINE. TONIGHT, WE SPEAK WITH THE ACTING SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND A MEMBER OF THE STATE VACCINE TASK FORCE AS WE CONTINUE TO BRING COVID VACCINATIONS IN FOCUS. DATA FROM JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICINE SHOWS THAT PENNSYLVANIA RANKS JUST ABOVE THE NATIONAL AVERAGE WHEN IT COMES TO THE PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19. Pa Vaccination Timeline 10:53 pm As part of the state’s accelerated phased rollout plan starting today law enforcement, firefighters, grocery store workers, food & agriculture workers are eligible to receive vaccine. On April 5th, all residents in Phase 1B will be eligible to receive the vaccine then on April 12th all residents in Phase 1C will be eligible to receive their vaccine. On April 19th, all Pennsylvanians regardless of their phase designation can receive the vaccine. The Secretary of Health saying that the recent approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is allowing the state to get through these phases. “So we have really been able to be in a different playing field than we were in January when we talked about Phase 1A and really growing it at that point. The supply projections and especially with the increased approval of the Johnson vaccine have allowed us to more quickly accelerate what really was our planned progression for many of these phases

(Kimberly Paynter/WHYY) Updated at 7:07 p.m. Philadelphia Health Commissioner Thomas Farley expressed regret about trusting thousands of vaccine doses to now-disgraced start-up Philly Fighting COVID adding he assumed established health systems would be too busy for the task. Officials confirmed they’d received at least seven applications for its community vaccination request for proposals, including from major health systems Penn Medicine, Einstein, and Temple Health. The end-of-year approvals of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were widely anticipated for months before the FDA emergency use authorization and shipment began. Asked why the city hadn’t used this time to set up a vaccine-distribution system with big medical players, Farley responded he assumed they’d be too busy.
