Across much of the U.S., taking the train isn’t exactly convenient. Slow service, delays, and poor access often make alternatives like flying or driving more attractive. But on March 31, President Joe Biden nicknamed “Amtrak Joe” for his frequent trips between Delaware and Washington, D.C. unveiled his American Jobs Plan, which among other things proposes $80 billion in new funding for Amtrak, the country’s major passenger rail service. Could that be enough money to get the country the high-speed rail network it deserves?

Rokita Rejects Holcomb Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita has denied Governor Eric Holcomb’s request to hire outside counsel in his suit against the Indiana Legislature over the ability to call a Special Session. Holcomb is ignoring Rokita’s directive and doing it anyway. This sets up another showdown between the governor and elected officials over his insistence only he can call the legislature back. Rob Kendall and Abdul-Hakim Shabazz discuss who has the legal high ground on this week’s Statehouse Happenings. https://omny.fm/shows/the-rob-kendall-show/rokita-rejects-holcomb Photo Credit: CQ-Roll Call, Inc./Getty Images Share By: Eric Berman

Pause on J&J Vaccination in U S Continues as CDC Committee Asks for More Data

Pause on J&J Vaccination in U.S. Continues as CDC Committee Asks for More Data Time 3 hrs ago © CQ-Roll Call, Inc/Getty Images After federal health agencies in the U.S. recommended a temporary halt on using the Johnson & Johnson-Janssen COVID-19 vaccine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on April 14 convened a 13-member Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to review the six reports of unusual blood clots occurring in people vaccinated with the shot. The ACIP sets policies for how any approved or, in the case of COVID-19, authorized, vaccines are to be used when and how the shots should be given and to which age groups. After the meeting, the CDC said it would continue to recommend the pause.
