This will be entirely different from the first two movies based on
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, because they won’t be rehashing the familiar story of the five children who are tested as they tour Wonka’s grand candy factory. However, it will take some cues from those first two movies, because there are said to be several musical numbers throughout the film, marking the first time Chalamet has done any big singing and dancing on the big screen.
Chalamet became a rising talent after his turn in
Call Me By Your Name, and he’s quickly become one of Hollywood’s hot young stars, both because of his good looks and his incredible talent. Though I believe Chalamet has the comedic sensibilities to pull off a role like this, I’m worried that his take on Wonka will skew more to the kind of character that Johnny Depp gave us rather than Gene Wilder, and I’m sure that’s what Warner Bros. is hoping for as well. Then again,
Call Me By Your Name and Little Women star Timothée Chalamet has been tapped to play a young Willy Wonka in a Warner Bros. origin story film, Deadline reported Monday.
Willy Wonka is the owner of the chocolate factory in Roald Dahl’s
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Wonka is an eccentric man who invites five children to his mysterious factory for a tour in order to decide which of them will inherit his fortune. All of them are eliminated from contention because of deep character flaws, except for wide-eyed hero Charlie Bucket.
The prequel will follow the chocolatier’s adventures prior to opening his candy factory, because sure, great to touch on how Wonka exploited the Oompa Loompas by “liberating” them. This will be the third time someone has portrayed Willy Wonka on screen, though no one can hold a candle to Gene Wilder’s unsettlingly bizarre performance in 1971’s
LIL NAS X was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend . . . and he made headlines BY ACCIDENT for a change, when he ripped his pants . . . IN THE FRONT.
It happened during his performance of Montero (Call Me By Your Name) , while he was grinding on a stripper pole. He noticed it immediately and covered up with his hand . . . which stayed on his crotch until the song was over.
Later on, he Tweeted, quote, I know I do a lot of planned [stuff] but ripping my pants on live television is not one of them. He also clowned himself on TikTok.

‘Call Me By Your Name’ star Timothee Chalamet is gearing up to put on his dancing shoes as he is confirmed to star in an origin story based on the early days of the fictional character Willy Wonka’s life. Gene Wild portrayed the character for the first time in 1971 with ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’.
