During this week’s COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center Briefing, Johnson County Public Health Nursing Manager Trish Thompson talked about the possible side effects that are being reported from the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.
Pain, soreness, and swelling at the site of injection are common and swollen lymph nodes in the injection area can occur as well, she said.
Also, some getting the vaccine have been surprised with other side effects, which are a good sign, according to Thompson
.
Thompson said they have seen where someone was vaccinated and then tested positive for the virus, but the public should remember the exposure could have happened from 2 to 14 days prior to getting the vaccine.
Johnson County Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Schueler, in his weekly discussion at the COVID-19 Emergency Operations Center Briefing this week, said it is exciting to see a major turning point in the war on COVID, with the implementation of vaccinations during the last few weeks.
He touched on vaccine safety, saying he believes the vaccine is safer than risking getting the disease.
Dr. Schueler said that medical science clearly does not yet know the long-term effects of the vaccine, but he is more concerned about what the long-term effects of the COVID virus could be, how it affects our nervous system and our immune system.
