Vaccine roulette

Welcome, everybody, to vaccine roulette! It’s a crazy, new game that requires great endurance, an epic tolerance for failure and, above all, luck. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to get stuck in a snowstorm near a carload of health care workers who happen to be carrying a few doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that’s set to expire and needs to be used ASAP. That’s how a few people in Oregon scored their shot the other day. Or maybe after your vain attempts to sign up for a vaccine at those big pharmacy conglomerates, you’ll be the surprise winner of a hospital’s vaccine lottery. A couple of Chicago people I know have scored that way.

Chicago COVID-19 vaccine sign up website launches as city partners with Zocdoc

Chicagoans will be able to locate vaccination sites and schedule appointments on the website zocdoc.com/vaccine. One week after Chicagoans over 65 became eligible to get vaccinated, one out of every 14 has been able to do so, mostly after getting a call from their primarily health providers to schedule an appointment. So all over this city, thousands and thousands of our most vulnerable Chicagoans have been called for a vaccine, said Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) Commissioner Allison Arwady, M.D. And that continues to be, really, the primary way that many people are being vaccinated and will continue to be vaccinated.

Chicago partners with Zocdoc for COVID-19 vaccine rollout

The city of Chicago announced Tuesday that it would partner with Zocdoc to use the vendor s scheduling technology to assist with the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.   Starting this week, Chicagoans can visit zocdoc.com/vaccine. Eligible users will be able to find and select a date, time and location to book their appointment online at a nearby provider. Those not yet eligible can enter their email address to be notified when more supply becomes available.    City representatives say the aim is to give Chicagoans a simplified way to find a vaccination site amidst enduring confusion.    The awareness of the problem really came last year, said Chicago Department of Public Health Deputy Commissioner Christina Hildreth Anderson, who is also chief of operations for the city s COVID-19 response. We put an enormous amount of effort into COVID-19 testing access, and one of the things we never got to was a central place to [find out where] to get tested.
