The Town of Stony Plain is taking steps to ensure its resilience against current and future emergencies.
During the May 3 regular council meeting, council members voted to accept the Emergency Management update for information which highlighted the Town’s internal response to the COVID-19 pandemic thus far.

“As we’re all aware, COVID-19 really was the theme in 2020 related to emergency management and it continues in 2021. The Emergency Management Plan does provide a guide for our municipal response to an emergency that may happen in the community. It’s not necessarily a game plan for our citizens, it’s a game plan for ourselves with respect to responding to emergencies,” said Karl Hill, General Manager of Community and Protective Services.

As summer weather approaches and we begin spending more time outdoors, Manitoban emergency officials are reminding us to have an emergency plan in place in the event of severe weather or a natural disaster.
May 2 marked the start of Emergency Preparedness Week across Canada and Darren Driedger, emergency coordinator for the Southern Emergency Response Committee, is encouraging families to use this occasion to have a discussion about their home emergency plan and review some of the specifics of that plan.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Emergency Services is offering a fun incentive for local residents to prepare a 72-hour emergency kit.
To recognize Emergency Preparedness Week, the fire department is holding a social media contest asking residents to share their emergency kits for a chance to win one of four $25 gift cards to their favourite local restaurant. The contest closes on May 9. Details can be found on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok @ckfiredept.
