Alice Strawn of Gloucester wants to serve her community by volunteering at Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue. She is currently training to become a volunteer EMT at the station.
Alice Strawn, a native of Gloucester, has always wanted to work in the medical field and decided to take a local approach to not only gain experience and hands-on training, but also to serve her community.
The summer after her junior year of high school, Strawn attended Rappahannock Community College and became a certified Emergency Medical Technician through the college’s EMT certification program.
Before Strawn took the EMT course, she had to take an Anatomy and Physiology class the summer before.

Sharjah: Emirati women have been trailblazers in the region, breaking social taboos regarding women’s roles in the community. Emirati women paramedics, who are at the frontline of emergency medical care, spoke to Gulf News about the tough emotional challenges their jobs pose.
For 30 brave UAE national women who joined National Ambulance over the last three years the opportunity was too good to pass by. Earlier this month, another 23 more Emirati females officially joined the service after successfully completing an intensive full time programme in which they gained the required theoretical knowledge and practical experience to take up a full-time position as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) with National Ambulance. Emirati women EMTs continue to outnumber their male counterparts accounting for almost 85 per cent of Emirati EMTs at National Ambulance.

Taking COVID-19 pandemic challenges in stride, the Idaho State University Disaster Response Center (DRC) is preparing to host multiple training events in the coming months to assist with the readiness and skill development of emergency responders.
The DRC is currently working with local, regional, and state entities to host training events at its facilities on ISU campus in Pocatello.
Training scenarios for emergency responders include subterranean, breaching, and HAZMAT response. One of the emergency responder communities that the DRC will be hosting includes the Civil Support Teams (CSTs). CSTs are part of the United States National Guard which supports civil authorities during domestic natural or human-made disasters that may result in catastrophic loss of life or property.
