Marshall Fire Department busy providing shelter, responding to calls and assessing damage days into winter weather

Marshall Damage assessment Thursday, the Marshall Fire Department took KTBS around Marshall, Texas as they assessed damage in areas. Several had awnings to collapse. One major collapse happened at the Fast Food gas station.  A young boy  and  a man was sent to the hospital with minor lower body injuries after the awning over gas pumps fell onto their truck. They were there getting gas.  Employee Beverly Winch was there when it happened.  I heard a loud boom and the whole building shook and I turned around and saw what happened and just started screaming, call 911, check on the people, call the boss, shut down the pumps go, said Winch. Just to make sure everything s okay and make sure that people were okay was the main thing. It felt good to be able to help out but it was a really horrifying experience.

Craig city manager accuses former chief of disparaging remarks in email

After accepting the resignation of former Craig Police Department Chief Jerry DeLong on the afternoon of Tuesday, Feb. 9 around 3 p.m., City Manager Peter Brixius rescinded a separation agreement with the former chief two days later. Brixius cited disparaging remarks allegedly made by DeLong, according to emails provided to the Craig Press through a Colorado Open Records Act request. On Feb. 10, the city through Brixius approached DeLong with a separation agreement, stating that the city would pay the former chief two months’ aggregated salary beginning March 1, 2021, and would allow DeLong to continue health insurance coverage for himself and his family as currently exists during the two-month period during which he would receive severance pay.

Lake area store turns into COVID-19 vaccination site; reschedules canceled appointments

LAKE OF THE OZARKS - Lake Regional Health System is administering the COVID-19 vaccine at the site of what used to be a Pier 1 Imports. The owners of the former store donated it to Lake Regional Health System as an appointment-based vaccination site.Elyse Schoenig, KOMU 8 Reporter The site is appointment-based only for those in eligible tiers. Two second-dose clinics scheduled for this week on Monday and Wednesday were canceled due to weather conditions. Those who originally signed up on either of these days had their appointments postponed to Friday with their same times. Lake Regional Health System s Emergency Management Coordinator said Friday s distribution will be the largest one at this site to date.

City of Craig names interim chief of police

File photo Nearly one week after the resignation of Craig Police Department Chief of Police Jerry DeLong, the City of Craig has named an interim chief for the department. According to a news release from the city Wednesday afternoon, City Manager Peter Brixius announced Michael Cochran as the city’s interim police chief with an estimated start date to occur in two weeks. “Cochran is familiar with Craig PD as he formerly worked for the department prior to taking his current position as Deputy Sheriff and Emergency Management Coordinator for the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office. He has led a distinguished law enforcement career which began in 1989 as a patrol deputy for the Paulding County Sheriff’s Department in Dallas, Georgia and has most recently served in an interim police chief position for the City of Powder Springs in 2017,” the city statement reads.
