It is a sad day for the British royal family. Queen Elizabeth II confirmed via the official Royal Family Twitter account on Friday morning that her husband Prince Philip has died. He was 99. It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, an announcement posted on royal.uk reads.
According to the statement, the Duke of Edinburgh died peacefully at Windsor Castle.
The statement continued, The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.

Emmerdale will not air on Friday night at all, due to a huge shake-up in the TV schedule.
It isn t the only soap to be pulled from schedules though, as Coronation Street s double episode will no longer air either.
BBC One s EastEnders also isn t on on Friday night as usual, and most of the planned programmes have been ditched after some sad news was announced around midday on Friday. Buckingham Palace confirmed the death of Prince Philip at the age of 99 in a moving statement.
Labour Party suspends campaigning following death of Prince Philip

The Labour Party has suspended campaigning “as a mark of respect” following the death of Prince Philip this morning.
Members have been advised not to distribute party leaflets or hold canvassing sessions this weekend as a period of national mourning commences.
Local elections are due to take place across the devolved nations on 6 May, with members of the public due to cast their votes for positions such as London Mayorship.
In a statement on Twitter, a Labour Party spokesperson said: “As a mark of respect following the sad death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Labour Party has today suspended all campaigning.”
