Updates and reaction as the Duke of Edinburgh has died, Buckingham Palace has announced.
A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
The Prince recently returned home after being treated in hospital.

The British Royal Family has announced that
Prince Philip has passed away at the age of 99.
On Friday morning, the royals made the announcement via Twitter, writing “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”
They went on to say “The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course.”

The duke and the Queen were married for more than 70 years and Philip dedicated decades of his life to royal duty, serving the nation at the monarch’s side. He officially retired from public engagements in the summer of 2017. The Duke of Edinburgh, the Queen’s “strength and stay” for 73 years, has died aged 99.

He was the longest serving consort in British history, and was only months away from his 100th birthday in June.
