The news of his death was announced in a statement on Twitter by Royal Family on behalf of the Queen. It said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. “His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.” It has now been confirmed Prince Philip will lie in rest at Windsor Castle in line with his wishes following his funeral which will be at St George’s chapel at Windsor Castle.

Prince Philip, is survived by his wife of 73 years, Queen Elizabeth, their daughter Princess Anne and their three sons: next-in-line-to-the-throne Prince Charles, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, including Prince William and Prince Harry and nine great-grandchildren, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Archie and Princess Eugenie s new baby boy August Phillip.
