In these unconventional times, many area families have stayed away from conventional schooling.
The Avon Maitland District School Board reports that there are more than 1,100 students in their remote learning school this year, 696 in elementary with an additional 443 secondary students. But there are also 268 students a part of their PROG Homeroom program, where paper packages with the curriculum are picked up regularly by parents at their “home” school.

That doesn’t count those who are exclusively home-schooled, either.
So far, in speaking honestly with a couple of busy stay-at-home moms, they are pleased with the choice and results they’ve made in their respective lives.
